| Alleged gunman arrested following Fairfield shooting that injured one

Hours after a man was shot Friday outside a Fairfield gas station, police announced the arrest of the alleged gunman.

Manuel Rodrigues, 21, of Fairfield, was booked into Solano County Jail shortly after 11:15 p.m. on suspicion of numerous charges including attempted murder, shooting from a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in public, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being armed while committing a felony and violating his Post Release Community Supervision.

Rodrigues is being held without bail. His arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Solano County Superior Court in Fairfield.

Events unfolded shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the ARCO AM/PM on Nelson Road.

Police responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot.

Witnesses told officers that the gunman had been parked at one of the pumps and the victim had been parked in front of the convenience mart.

At some point, both parties fired at each other. The victim was wounded and someone he apparently knew drove him to NorthBay Medical Center for treatment of injuries believed to be serious but not life threatening.

The gunman, meanwhile, fled, leaving what’s believed to be his firearm behind.

Officers evacuated a nearby McDonald’s as they investigated a report that he was in the area.

Rodrigues was subsequently detained and arrested, though details regarding the arrest and the motivation for the attack were unavailable.

At least two bullet holes pierced the store’s windows, another went through a window frame.

The glass in the doors was shattered, splattering the entryway.

The gas pump section was cordoned off with crime scene tape, protecting shell casings scattered around the area.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter lent support..

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department Investigations Unit at 428-7600.
