| Fairfield man accused of causing hazardous materials-related road closure arraigned

A Fairfield teen accused of leading police on a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a crash, a school lockdown and an hours-long road closure due to a hazardous materials situation was arraigned Friday.

Emari Prescott, 18, who was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of evading a peace officer, hit-and-run and resisting arrest, pleaded not guilty.

The Dec. 14 chase began shortly before 8 a.m. when Prescott was reportedly seen speeding near Air Base Parkway and Walters Road. Prescott allegedly sped west on Air Base Parkway and crashed into another vehicle near Clay Bank Road before he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood, according to police.

Due to Prescott’s proximity to Cleo Gordon Middle School, the school was placed on a brief lockdown, police said. Before he reached the school, however, officers arrested Prescott near Dover Avenue.

Back at the scene of the wreck, fire officials and a hazardous materials crew blocked off the area — a result of Prescott crashing into a vehicle containing pool cleaning supplies that spilled into the roadway. The occupant of the vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police.

In total, two gallons of muriatic acid and chlorine poured onto the roadway. A mixing of the two chemicals could cause a chemical reaction, police said.

The threat forced authorities to evacuate 10 residences south of Air Base — in the areas of Bobwhite Court, Tern Cour, and Gull Court.

After almost five hours of cleaning the roadway, traffic returned to normal.

Prescott will be back in court Feb. 7 for a readiness conference.
