| Local Roundup: Bulldogs blowout visiting Indians to christen MEL play

The Vacaville High boys opened the Monticello Empire League with am 84-43 blowout versus visiting Armijo behind a pair of 20-plus point performances behind Zack Perlstein and Jordan Adams.

Adams and Perlstein led the way in the first three quarters with Adams scoring a team-high 23 points after knocking down four 3-pointers. Perlstein scored 20 in the winning effort.

Girls Basketball

JV Vacaville 40, Armijo 7 >> Vacaville’s girls junior varsity basketball team didn’t allow a point for 2 1/2 quarters and rolled to a 40-7 victory at Armijo in the MEL opener for both teams on Friday.

Birdy Simon led the offense with 14 points as the Bulldogs improved to 6-7 overall.

Cassie Browne and Maya Holman each added eight points for Vacaville. Selina Psaila and Rose Pace chipped in four apiece.

Vacaville plays at Napa on Tuesday.

JV Vintage 43, Will C. Wood 24 >> The Will C. Wood junior varsity basketball team found themselves in an early hole to tip-off league play Friday night.

After facing an early 15 point deficit in the first quarter, the ‘Cats were unable to recover as they struggled against the added size Vintage offered.

Wood entered the second half with increased intensity and ultimately held the Crushers to just four points in the frame. However, Wood was unable to procure the comeback as they missed 19 free throws.

Wood will return to the hardwood on Tuesday with an away against versus Armijo. Tip-off is scheduled for at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer

Napa 6, Will C. Wood 0 >> Wood out-shot napa 21-17 but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Although the first 20 minutes of each half saw minimal offensive action, Napa registered four goals just past the midway point of the opening half.

Wood had a bevy of opportunities to cut into the lead but were ultimately unable to keep up with Napa.

“They just wore us out with there attack and capitalized on our mistakes,” said Wood head coach Jorge Ruiz-Chavez. “When we got into there third of the field we couldn’t do the same. but we had plenty of chances . But all in all, I was proud of there performance. Time of possession was 50/50 . But we will learn from it and take it into our game at Rodriguez on wed.

JV Vacaville 0, Rodriguez 0 >> The Vacaville junior varsity team kicked off league play with a tie Thursday night at home.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Tuesday with a home game against Vintage.
